Chase This Light is one of those albums you come across and think (after seeing the brilliant cover), “Ah, this is just going to be another album that’s like all the rest.” You get home and you start listening to it, and you’re actually pleasantly surprised. Jimmy Eat World breaks from the stereotypical confines of alternative rock and creates something refreshing with their albums. Chase This Light is a perfect example of this. The only problem I had was that many of the songs felt familiar. The lyrics are beautiful, and the front man, Jim Adkins, carries a voice that catches your attention from the start, while the music is nicely structured. Yet it just felt like they could’ve done a bit more. It’s a good album, but I think it could have gone just a few more inches to be great.
